Kehila Jewish Community Day School was founded in 1999 to offer the Hamilton area community a school in which the plurality of Jewish belief and practice was honoured within an educative environment based on established and proven curricula. We combine secular studies, Judaica, Hebrew, arts, sports and music to provide students with a rich, diverse, and intellectually stimulating programme, in which each child is encouraged to reach the fullest of his or her potential. Kehila is a board-run school where parental involvement in all aspects of the school's operation is welcome.

Cutting for a Cause
April 15, 2013 ~ There are unfortunately people who battle illnesses where the treatment can result in the loss of their hair. As part of the ongoing 2013 Kehila tikkun olam initiative, a group of Kehila girls from grades 2-4 contributed their hair, a combined total of 70 inches, for the creation of wigs for these people as part of the Pantene Beautiful Lengths program which is in partnership with the Canadian Cancer Society.
On March 21st, Meaghan and Glynnie, hairstylists from the Maddison Avenue Hair Salon, graciously donated their time and expertise to cut and style the long hair of six grade 2-4 students. In the photo, these students are: Back Row L-R: Emma and Talya and Front Row L-R: Maddie, Miriam, and Olivia. Absent from the photo is Naomi. The entire school body shared in the event by cheering for their friends. Kehila is hoping to continue annually with this program, if our students are willing. Our other tikkun olam projects scheduled for April 22nd, include a food drive for the Kosher Food Bank and an Earth Day garden cleanup.Spectator Advertising Contest

Erika Apel's Entry Chosen as Kehila's Winner in Hamilton Spectator Advertising ContestKehila Shines at Morris Black Speaking Competition
January 07, 2013 ~ Mazel Tov to our Kehila students, past and present, who swept the honours in the Morris Black Speaking Competition on Sunday, December 2nd, 2012 at the J.C.C.
All the students at Kehila from grade 3 and up write a speech for the Morris Black competition as part of the integration of secular language studies and Judaic studies every year. They are coached by their teachers in presentations skills as well.
The competition is run by Rick Black, son of Morris Black, who had left money in his will for a contest in which children would write about important figures in Jewish history. Now the students are allowed to choose their own topics.
This year the topics ran the gamut: from Jewish inventions to the holocaust, from the Hebrew Language to ‘my sister’s bat mitzvah', from Jonah and the whale to the history of the Beth Jacob synagogue in Hamilton to a child’s trip to Israel. The childrens’ presentations were as diverse as their chosen topics.
The knowledge, ability, self-confidence and poise of our Kehila students, past and present, are rewarded each year by their success at the competition. Our 2012 winners are: (“past” refers to former Kehila students)
